A Three-Day Event Promoting Equity and Equal Opportunities for Women in Media

The Organization for Innovation and Sustainable Development (OISD) flagged off a groundbreaking training event today, aimed at empowering female journalists in the North-East region of Nigeria.

The event, titled “SHE EXISTS: Promoting Equity and Equal Opportunities for Women in Media,” was officially opened by OISD’s Executive Director, Mr. Jamilu Yusuf, at the prestigious AUN Hotel in Yola, Adamawa State. With the support of the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja.

OISD has orchestrated a pivotal gathering that signifies a significant step toward a more inclusive and equitable media landscape. The event drew participants, speakers, and partners from various sectors, highlighting the global importance of gender equality in journalism.

The opening ceremony featured esteemed guests, including Mr. Robert Gabor, the U.S. Embassy Press Attaché, who delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the U.S. Embassy’s commitment to fostering gender equality and the vital role of women in journalism.

The keynote address was delivered by Aishah Gambari, a Senior Information Specialist, who shared her vast experience and insights into the transformative potential of women in the media industry. Her speech underscored the importance of empowering women journalists to shape the future of media.

Mr. Jamilu Yusuf, in his welcome speech, articulated the event’s significance, stating, “We stand poised to chart a course toward a future where women in media not only exist but thrive, where equity reigns supreme, and where opportunities are boundless.”

The three-day training program includes a comprehensive set of modules designed to equip female journalists with the skills, knowledge, and perspectives necessary to effect lasting change in the media industry. The modules are a testament to OISD’s commitment to fostering a diverse, vibrant, and equitable media ecosystem.

Mr. Yusuf expressed gratitude to all participants, speakers, partners, and organizers for their unwavering commitment to the cause of gender equality in journalism. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in championing women’s roles in media and ensuring that “SHE EXISTS” not only in media but at the forefront of change.

As the “SHE EXISTS” training unfolds over the next three days, it promises to be a transformative journey towards a more inclusive and equitable media landscape in Nigeria’s North-East region, inspiring female journalists to thrive and make a lasting impact in the field. The training is also scheduled to hold in Gombe between September 19 and 21; in Taraba between September 25 and 27, in Bauchi between October 16 and 18, in Yobe between October 23 and 25, and in Borno between October 30 and November 1.
